The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation has released the volume
Documenti sulla pace adriatica. Il negoziato per gli accordi di Osimo nelle carte della diplomazia italiana, edited by Massimo Bucarelli, Rome, MAECI Edizioni, 2025.

Published to mark the fiftieth anniversary of the signing of the Osimo Agreements on 10 November 1975 between the Italian Republic and the Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, the volume presents previously unpublished diplomatic documents that shed new light on the protracted and complex negotiations that engaged both governments and their diplomatic corps over a seven-year period, from 1968 to 1975.

These agreements resolved the long-standing issue of the eastern border and the question of Trieste—matters that had remained unsettled since the end of the Second World War. The documentation enables a more precise and informed understanding of the key phases and critical junctures of the talks that ultimately led Rome and Belgrade to close what was described as “the last page of the last chapter of the war,” thereby inaugurating a new era of cooperation and friendship.

To guide readers through the evolution of the discussions on the agreement’s details and the most politically sensitive issues, the volume includes two essential introductory essays: one by Massimo Bucarelli, focusing on the stages of the political negotiation and the settlement of the Italo-Yugoslav border; and another by Arrigo Bonifacio, addressing the question of minorities and their protection.
