“Documents on the Foreign Policy of Israel” is issued by the Documents and Commemoration Department of the Israel State Archives, which has become in practice the Publications and Internet Content Department of the Archives. In the past the series was the main focus of activity of the department, and consisted of a series of printed volumes intended mainly for researchers and students, with a companion English volume. Today the management of the Archives has other priorities, and work on the series continues alongside publications intended for the general public and other projects including the Visitors’ Center of the Archives.
The second series consisting of online volumes only, with an introduction and list of documents with summaries in English, was started in 2009. It consists of online volumes only with introduction and list of documents and summaries in English. In 2016 a new website was installed, and only part of the foreign policy publications in English have been transferred to the new website.
Documents on the Foreign Policy of Israel – Second Series
Description of scope: While the first series is chronological, with each volume relating to part or all of a particular year, each volume in the new series covers a subject or a geographical area.
Due to the updating of our website, Volume 1, Israel’s Relations with Iran and the Eastern Mediterranean States, 1961-1967 is not currently available online.
Volume 2, Israel’s Relations with Western Europe, includes one publication on Israel’s relations with West Germany 1961-1967, currently available in Hebrew only. We hope to add it in English soon.

Documents on the Foreign Policy of Israel – First Series
Description of scope: The "Documents on the Foreign Policy of Israel" series has been published since 1978. It presents the reader with a selection of Israel's state records and diplomatic documents, starting just before the establishment of the state. Two volumes covering May 1945 to November 1947 were published in English, in collaboration with the Jewish Agency and Tel Aviv University. These volumes also contain some documents in Hebrew. The rest of the volumes were published in the original language in which the documents were written, which in the early years of the state was often English; gradually Hebrew became dominant. Summaries of the Hebrew documents as well as a full translation of the notes, the introduction and the indexes are included in a Companion Volume in English, which was published together with the main volume. The State Documents Department has also taken part in several joint publication ventures with East European states: the publication in conjunction with Russia of documents covering 1945-1953 (two volumes) and a joint venture with Poland dealing with the documentation of Israeli-Poland foreign policy during 1945-1967.
